Affordable housing is of increasing concern, as Anchorage continues to grow in size and density. New approaches are needed to ensure entry-level and part-time workers, college students and seniors have convenient access to affordable housing. As part of the on-going activities associated with the development of the Fairview Community Plan and the Fairview Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA), the Council is seeking public input on developing a balanced approach to affordable housing in the East Downtown area. As part of this outreach effort, Saturday, April 18th, from 10am-2pm, the Council hosted a hands-on Urban Housing Workshop at the Fairview Community Recreation Center. A draft report document will be posted on this web site in the near future.

MAIN STREET WORKSHOPS

The Fairview Community Council's Revitalization Committee hosted a Main Street Workshop Saturday, April 4, 2009, from 10am-2pm, at the Fairview Community Recreation Center. located at 9th Avenue & Karluk Street. The purpose of the event was to help craft a revitalization plan and stratagies for the northeastern quadrant of Anchorage's Urban Core.

The event was a follow-up to a similar Main Street Workshop held November 8, 2008 for the southern half of Gambell Street. One of the outputs of this earlier workshop was the realization that any recommendations for the northern edges of Fairview should include the civic organizations on each side of our Council. The FVCC invited the South Addition, Downtown and Mountain View Community Councils to participate in the event, in a common effort to craft a positive vision for the northeastern quadrant of the Urban Core. As soon as the report from the 04/04/2009 Main Stree Workshop is completed, it will be posted on this website.
