Welcome to the Abbott Loop Community Council

ONE CITY, MANY NEIGHBORHOODS

The Abbott Loop Community Council is located in the heart of Anchorage.  It encompasses the geographic area between Dowling Road on the north, O'Malley Road on the south, New Seward Hwy on the west, Abbott Loop Road on the east, and an additional smaller area to the east roughly between Abbott Loop Road, Abbott Road, Birch Road, and O'Malley Road.  The Community Council's purpose is to encourage active participation in neighborhood and community events, activities, schools -- all of those things that make a viable city -- and to advise the Anchorage Assembly and other groups regarding issues that affect its geographic area.  The Abbott Loop Community Council is affiliated with the Anchorage Federation of Community Councils.

People join the Community Council because they are interested in what's going on in the community.  Often people attend their first meeting because of something happening in their neighborhood that they are concerned about, be it a proposed rezone, nuisance behavior by neighbors, or road construction (or lack of it).  The meetings are a easy, comfortable place to communicate with community leaders, legislators, and neighbors about how to make the Abbott Loop area an even better place to live, work, and play.  It's an opportunity to just sit and listen for a couple of hours once a month, learning things you would never know otherwise, and often protecting your investment in your home or business.  No commitment is required, and it is free!  The Abbott Loop Community Council's by-laws provide for meetings to be held at 7:00 PM the last Thursday of the month at the Abbott Loop Elementary School 8427 Lake Otis Parkway.  Our representatives on the Anchorage Assembly usually attend the meetings and make brief presentations, offering you an opportunity to speak with them directly.
